ALTONIANS are being invited to the public launch next Monday of "Alton 2020" - a vision for the future. This week, Alton town clerk, Steve Parkinson and Vision for Alton steering group chairman Mike Heelis have been busy organising the distribution of 12,000 leaflets, outlining Alton's new town plan. A copy of the leaflet will be distributed to every household in the town, with an invitation to go along to Alton Assembly Rooms to find out how you could play a part in shaping the future of the town. Having developed the "vision", and drawn up a list of projects needed to achieve it, the aim now is to form a new body, to be known as the Alton Town Partnership, which will be responsible for implementing the plan. Alton's Vision document has already made an impact. Five of the projects have already been submitted for consideration under East Hampshire District Council's community partnership scheme and the Vision for Alton strategy document has been entered into the South East Market Towns award scheme. But key to its success will be the involvement of the public - as individuals or through clubs and organisations, who - on July 18 - will have the opportunity to make a real difference, by showing support and, if they feel so inclined, by taking an active part in the Alton Town Partnership. To be attended by Hampshire County Council chairman John West. the meeting starts at 7 pm at Alton Assembly Rooms on Crown Hill, and will include drinks and a finger buffet. All welcome. l If you would like to see a full copy of the "Alton 2020" town plan, or are unable to attend the meeting but would like to become involved, please contact the Alton Town Partnership via the Town Clerk on 01420 83986.
