A TEA party hosted by Hampshire County Council raised more than £330 in memory of MP?Jo Cox, who was killed last year.

The ‘Great Get Together’ event was held at the Great Hall in Winchester on June 18, alongside more than 100,000 events held across the UK encouraging communities to come together to share food and celebrate unity.

County council chairman Graham Burgess and leader Roy Perry invited representatives from across Hampshire, including mayors and parish chairmen, secondary schoolchildren, and representatives from the voluntary sector.

Mr Perry made an address along with Keith House, the leader of the Liberal Democrat Group at the county council, and former Labour county councillor Frank Rust, each emphasising the important unity that exists across UK communities.

He said: “The Great Get Together tea party was a fitting tribute in commemorating Jo Cox’s life and celebrating the values she held so strongly. Our thanks go to everyone who contributed to our collection box for the Jo Cox Foundation. The money will go toward advancing the causes that Jo Cox championed like loneliness in UK communities.”

Ahead of the event at the Great Hall, Mr Burgess and Mr Perry attended the annual county service at Winchester Cathedral, where they were joined by Armed Forces families, representatives from interfaith organisations, and schoolchildren.
