AN Alton cyclist has biked from London to Paris, raising almost £3,000 for charity in the process.
The appropriately named Chloe Kind embarked on her four-day trip on September 27, pedalling hundreds of miles in aid of the Ronald McDonald House Charities – a cause close to her heart.
“I signed up to the 300-mile bike ride challenge because my very best friends Darren Bailey and Lauren Hill lived at the Ronald McDonald House in Southampton for 15 months while their gorgeous little son Oliver was being treated in Southampton hospital,” Chloe explained.
“Ollie suffers from titin myopathy, which is a muscle disorder causing muscle weakness due to a problem with the titin protein in the body.
“Living in the Ronald McDonald house meant that Darren and Lauren could be with Oliver all the time and were never too far away.”
To date, Ronald McDonald House Charities has built accommodation at 14 hospitals across the UK, which provides 400 free bedrooms for families every single night of the year. There are still hundreds of families sleeping on camp beds and in cars each night just to be close to their sick child.
“I’ve seen first-hand how Ronald McDonald House Charity can support families when their child is poorly and truly believe that this fantastic charity is a very worthy cause for extra funding, which was the reason why I cycled from one country to another,” added Chloe.
As an “amateur”, with little experience on a road bike, Chloe said the ride was “a huge challenge”, but one she “absolutely loved”.
With a target of £2,000, her fundraising efforts are apparently too good as she’s now around the £2,825 mark. To get her up to a nice round number, visit justgiving.com/fundraising/chloe-kind.
She went on to describe the ride as “a truly incredible experience” – and it probably won’t be her last.
“Now I’m keen to find my next challenge,” added Chloe.
