AN armed robber made off with a quantity of cash when the post master and mistress of Passfield Post Office were robbed at knife point on Wednesday.
The couple, Jane and Alan Guard, were both unhurt in the robbery and it is not yet clear how much cash was taken.
Whitehill police were called to the scene at 12-25 but the man had made his escape in a blue car which had been parked outside the shop.
When The Herald spoke to acting Inspector Glynis Shaw, CID and forensic scene of crime officers were set to arrive at the post office.
CID officers would be conducting house-to-house enquiries in the area of the post office, said Insp Shaw.
She said violence and threats of violence were used during the robbery.
Sgt Rick Davidson said: "Police officers were deployed to strategic points in the area and were looking for the vehicle."
Outrage at the robbery was expressed by people trying to use the post office to collect magazines and other groceries.
Police have issued a brief description of the robber who was a white man in his early 20s and wearing a blue boiler suit.
