PROBLEMS with waste collection are not getting through to East Hampshire District Council as they should, says a Clanfield district and parish councillor.

Peter Bradbury (Clanfield and Buriton) complained about non-collection of recyclables in part of Clanfield at the end of last month. One area of the village did not have its recyclables collected until the next day.

ÒPeople did not know whether to take the containers in or leave them out,Ó said Mr Bradbury. ÒMatters were made worse by the high winds and heavy rain.

ÒI had many complaints and residents felt annoyed that because it was the weekend they had no means of finding out when the rubbish might be collected.

ÒThe waste team at EHDC are doing an excellent job and I fully support them but they cannot do their job properly if they do not receive the information from the contractor.Ó

EHDCÕs head of environment and sustainability, Steve Read, said: ÒWe take the complaint about the issue in Clanfield and lack of communication very seriously and we have discussed it with Onyx senior management.

ÒIt appears this was an isolated incident but we are always concerned with any shortcomings in the way the contract is delivered and if things go seriously wrong at any point we could exercise the right within the contract to impose financial penalties.Ó
