A FORMER landlady's worst fears have been realised following the submission of planning applications to change part of a pub into homes.

Four planning applications for change of use of the New Inn/Blues Tavern at Sleaford were registered with East Hampshire District Council last week.

Two of the applications are for part change of use of the pub, one is for conversion of part of the New Inn to two homes and the third is for conversion into one home.

District council planning officer Keith Oliver said the applications related to one side and the rear of the pub.

Plans for the side of the New Inn showed conversion into one dwelling, said Mr Oliver, with the rear of the pub being changed into two dwellings.

If the conversion was given the go-ahead, this would mean three homes being provided, with the pub remaining in the rest of the building.

The New Inn/Blues Tavern at Sleaford is a Grade II listed building and Mr Oliver said the issue relating to this was being looked into by EHDC planners.

In late March, the then landlady of the New Inn/Blues Tavern, Tina Zedd, told The Herald she was being told to quit the pub she had wanted to buy.

She predicted demolition of the venue and its replacement with six houses.

She had moved into the pub with fiance Peter Zmitrowicz after they lost the original Blues Tavern at Heath End, Farnham, to property developers.

The couple started the Blues Tavern II at the New Inn in February 1999, but tragedy struck when Peter died eight months later.

Tina then took over running the venue with the backing of the brewery.

East Hampshire District Council planning officer Keith Oliver said a decision on the applications for the New Inn/Blues Tavern could be made in two weeks' time.
