ST Thomas-on-The Bourne church marked Remembrance Sunday with two memorable services.

A Remembrance service in the morning was attended by representatives of the Royal British Legion, Scouts, Guides and other uniformed organisations.

The service of hymns and prayers, with music provided by the choir of men and boys, was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony and minute’s silence at the recently restored war memorial outside the church in Frensham Road.

The choir sang ‘For the Fallen’, from the poem by Laurence Binyon, set to music by Douglas Guest. William, one of the young choristers, played the Last Post and Reveille.

This was followed by an evening Eucharist for Peace including most of Faure’s Requiem, sung by the choir of men and girls.

The vicar of St Thomas’, Rev Karen Hutchinson, said: “Remembrance Sunday is a day that has deep personal meaning for many in the congregation at St Thomas’ and the local community.

“I was delighted we were able to mark the occasion in a fitting way. The choirs sang superbly well, and the music added greatly to the experience of these two deeply moving services.”
