TEN days of argument over Waverley Council's compulsory purchase order for the East Street development ended last Wednesday with a plea to "let The Marlborough Head be".

The destiny of the pub - and potentially the whole Crest Nicholson Sainsbury's development - now rests in the hands of government inspector Colin Ball, who conducted the public inquiry into the order.

Closing proceedings at The Bush Hotel, he indicated that he intends to send his report to the Secretary of State around Easter and anticipates the final decision will follow soon after.
