MORE than 40 members of the Lions Club of Farnham attended the final meeting of their 49th year in June, during which outgoing club president Barbara Wright handed over the badge of office to Andrew Lodge, who will be president during the club’s 50th year.
Andrew, who was president in 1988/89, is very much looking forward to this “special year” for Farnham Lions and to the club undertaking not only its normal activities but also a number of additional events, the purpose of all being to benefit the local community.
Also in attendance at the meeting were three new members, Tilly Casson, Ann Heselhurst and Bob Gentry, who enrolled later that evening and were welcomed to the club by Peter Matthews on the occasion of his 20th anniversary as a member of the Lions.
Farnham Lions, which began its 50th year on July 1, is a busy club, probably best known for its Beerex, Carnival, Eggstravaganza and Wenceslas activities.
Its members have raised more than £1m this millennium alone to support local good causes and, while doing so, have fun and discover new friendships and interests along the way.
