STUDENTS and staff of Weydon School in Farnham pushed aside their workbooks as they took part in a day of fundraising for Red Nose Day.

The school raised £2,993 for the charity through a variety of activities. Students paid £1 for the privilege of wearing red-themed mufti for the day, and headteacher John Winter ran a prize draw to allow a few students to swap places with him for the day.

For a £5 entry into the prize draw, the winning students were based in the headteacher’s office for an hour, but also walked the school checking on students work and behaviour.

Some invited friends to ‘important meetings’ and all enjoyed special refreshments. Meanwhile, Mr Winter worked hard in lessons such as computing and English.

Staff and students participated in cake sales, a selfie photo booth and enjoyed a carnival atmosphere over lunch time with music being played by student bands from all year groups. In addition, some teachers bravely took part in a ‘sponge the teacher’ fundraiser which the students enjoyed.

During assemblies in the morning the students took part in a balloon race, a red-themed quiz, telling jokes and designing red noses.

Sally Bowden, senior progress and achievement leader, who organised the event, said: “I would like to thank all the staff, students and parents for supporting this worthy cause.

“To raise such a large amount for charity is wonderful. The atmosphere was very uplifting and it was lovely to see everyone come together for Red Nose Day.”
