Frensham Road is to reopen through Lower Bourne early next week after a three-week closure, South East Water has confirmed.

The road has been closed at Gravel Hill between the Ridgway and Middle Bourne Lane since Monday, July 25 for an emergency water leak repair.

It is set to reopen on Monday, August 15 at the culmination of resurfacing works, after the water company successfully installed a 50-metre long section of new pipe along Frensham Road.

Philip Cereda, regional works delivery manager for South East Water, said: “The emergency work on Frensham Road has been progressing well.

“All connections for the new main have been completed, and the road will be refilled and surfaced over the next few days.

“The site is expected to be cleared over the weekend and the road reopened in full on Monday.”

The water leak has been blamed for causing widespread disruption to Lower Bourne’s water supply.

Its repair was complicated by the fact a retaining wall was built on top of the leaking pipe, requiring South East Water to install a new section of water main to replace the leaking one.

Light traffic is currently being diverted along Tilford Road, Thursley Road, Charles Hall, Waverley Lane, Great Austins, Old Farnham Lane and Frensham Road.

While heavy goods vehicles will need to follow a route along the A287 to Hindhead, the A3, Puttenham Heath Road, the A31, Waverley Lane, Tilford Road, Great Austins, Old Farnham Lane and Frensham Road.
