A FARNHAM man has been remanded in custody after appearing at court on Tuesday for breaching the conditions of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) imposed against him last May. Ryan Brookes, 27, was also charged with common assault and false imprisonment following an incident last Friday evening, when he is alleged to have had an argument with the female resident of a flat in The Forburys, Weydon Lane, from which he is banned. A woman fled the building with her baby after he refused to leave. Police were called as two children, aged five and three, remained in the flat. Following negotiations between Brookes and specially trained officers, he handed the children over unharmed and was subsequently arrested. Brookes' next appearance at South West Surrey Magistrates Court in Guildford is due to take place on June 17. Brookes was banned from causing alarm, harassment or distress to the residents of The Forburys under the conditions of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order obtained on May 30, 2007. The full order prevents Brookes from entering The Forburys and from any behaviour likely to cause alarm, harassment or distress to any of the residents. The three-year ASBO, which expires in May 2010, was granted at South West Surrey Magistrates' Court in Guildford after being sought by Surrey Police working in partnership with Waverley Borough Council, Raglan Housing Association and the local community. "The order was sought following numerous complaints from neighbouring residents about Brookes and his threatening and abusive behaviour. "Brookes was warned on several occasions that an ASBO would be sought, and this was used purely as a last resort," said a police spokesman.
