TEAM Treloar’s “stormed” the 37th London Marathon on Sunday, April 23, to raise over £20,000 for the charity.
It was described by a Treloar Trust spokesman as “a great day for Treloar’s as 12 amazing individuals tied their laces in Greenwich and started in what was the largest London Marathon to date, with more than 39,400 participants crossing the finish line in The Mall”.
They ran, not just for the sense of achievement but to raise much-needed funds to help support “the severely disabled young people who live, learn and grow” at Treloar School and College in Holybourne, near Alton.
The Treloar cheer point was just before the 30k marker at South Quay where, said the spokesman, “we had lots of fun cheering everybody on, but especially our epic 12!”.
First home for Treloar’s was Swansea Harriers Athletics Club runner Leigh Fennell, who signed up late to the party but completed the course in a highly-commendable three hours 17 minutes 23 seconds.
Leigh was followed home by Hallam Foster, who finished in 4.05, with Rob Burwell snapping at his heals in 4.09.
One of two ladies in the team, Victoria Dick, ran a thumping good 4.20, fractionally ahead of student Will Findlay in 4.22, Harry Gibson in 4.36, and Treloar’s second lady, Grace Brady, in a respectable 4.49.
Fired up by their success in the Limassol Marathon in Cyprus, business men Lee Eldridge and Andrew Lumley-Holmes, both of wealth management company Chase Buchanan, crossed the line together in 4.56, along with fellow Treloar runner Tom Stone. Not far behind was student Henry Skrine, who ran a time of 5.09 while Ian Woodcock, also of Chase Buchanan, came home in 5.15.
In expressing “a massive thank you” to every one of them for their “super-human efforts, both on the streets running and also in fund raising”, the Treloar Trust made special mention of Lee, Andrew and Ian who had built up to the London Marathon by using Limassol as a warm-up to boost their fundraising efforts on behalf of Treloar’s.
The public ballot for the 2018 London Marathon opened on Monday and will close tomorrow at 5pm.
