The mayor of Farnham has marked Volunteers Week by thanking the people who make the town look blooming wonderful.
A small army of volunteers have been getting their hands dirty to transform parts of the town into lush, flower-filled spaces.
And with June including Volunteer Week, Cllr George Murray felt there was no better time to highlight the selfless residents who are happy to dish the dirt for the sake of making Farnham look mighty fine.
He said: “We want to thank the volunteers who help make Farnham a beautiful and welcoming place for everyone.
“As well as producing flower-filled displays, In Bloom volunteers also help to keep the streets tidy with regular litter picks.
“Others also inspire the next generation of gardeners by passing on their knowledge to young people at our Bloomin’ Kids’ Gardening Workshops.”
Farnham In Bloom volunteers working alongside the town council’s outside workforce have spent more than 400 hours planting 42,000 plug plants over the past year.
They have also created more than 200 hanging baskets and have helped to water, weed and plant up additional flowerbeds in Gostrey Meadow and other public spaces.
A spokesperson for FTC said volunteering for Farnham In Bloom provides “countless benefits” for those who take part. It gives participants an opportunity to learn new skills and enjoy the fresh air and company of others who share a passion for gardening.
Cllr Murray added: “We are incredibly grateful to all of Farnham’s volunteers as they make such an incredible contribution to the life of the town.
“These include those volunteers who are still supporting COVID vaccinations and those who support young people community groups and Farnham's comprehensive events programme.
“Their community spirit and enthusiasm make Farnham truly special.”
