WARNINGS of thunderstorms and heavy showers have been issued by the Met Office for Surrey and Hampshire.

Yellow warnings are in place, with any storms expected to break out from late morning and into this afternoon, before slowly fading away this evening.

A Met Office spokesman said that due to low winds, the storms may be slow moving, leading to localised and prolonged thundery downpours.

As much as 50mm could fall, the spokesman added.

With heaviest showers forecast during the afternoon, the Met Office warns that they are likely to coincide with Friday evening rush hour and are warning drivers to be aware of potential flooding and travel disruption.
