CONCERNS over plans for the temporary storage of 50,000 redundant fridges and freezers at Sleaford Sandpit have been voiced to local MP James Arbuthnot.
As previously reported, Hampshire Waste Services has submitted plans to Hampshire County Council for an extension to previous permission to use the Trottsford Farm Sandpit in Picketts Hill as a landfill site.
This has caused great concern that toxic materials will escape and get into the local water supply.
Currently inert waste is being landfilled at the site, but the applicant now wants to temporarily store the redundant electrical appliances until a new and safe means of disposing of them has been agreed.
At last ThursdayÕs meeting of Kingsley Parish Council, Colin Neville said that local views had been taken on board by James Arbuthnot.
Mr Neville said that after hearing about the application, Mr Arbuthnot had agreed to quiz Baroness Young from the Environment Agency and the chief executive of Hampshire County Council, Peter Robinson, about the plans.
