A LYCRA-clad fitness fanatic from the 1990s will be making a flying visit to Farnham next week.
Mr Motivator, known for his eye-catching aerobic gear and enthusiastic workouts, is flying in from Jamaica to host two aerobics classes at Farnham Leisure Centre in aid of the Barnley family and their son Harry.
Eight-year-old Harry suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive muscle-wasting condition, and is just one of 50 boys eligible in England (60 across the UK), who has faced a wait of almost two years for decisions on NHS funding for the drug.
Without the drug Harry could become entirely reliant on a wheelchair by the age of 12.
Monday’s fundraising classes, in aid of the Help4Harry fund, won’t be the first time they have enlisted the help of the former GMTV fitness guru either.
He appeared last year on ITV’s All Star Mr & Mrs, where he won £22,500 and subsequently donated all his winnings to the cause for young Harry.
The fund was set up by Harry’s mum, Sue Barnley, where it is a part of the national charity Muscular Dystrophy UK.
Ahead of the classes, Sue was full of praise for the former TV personality’s continued support.
“I am delighted that once again Mr Motivator is helping support Muscular Dystrophy UK and my son Harry. We are so grateful to him for hosting the classes.
“Not only will they be a great workout and good fun, they will help raise vital funds for Help4Harry which all goes toward research and hopefully one day finding a cure for Duchennne.”
Mr Motivator, 63, whose real name is Derrick Evans, will host the classes at 5.30pm and 6.30pm next Monday, September 12, at Farnham Leisure Centre on Dogflud Way.
Tickets cost £10 and can be booked by e-mailing Sue Barnley on [email protected]. Anyone unable to attend the classes can via justgiving.com/fundraising/help4harry.
