IN May 1916, Farnham witnessed what was likely the first ever two minutes silence held in remembrance of the injured and the dead, and of those who were fighting.

One hundred years on the two minute silence forms part of our annual Remembrance Day traditions, and is an instantaneously recognisable sign of respect and solidarity.

From March 1, 2016, the Museum of Farnham will be holding an exhibition dedicated to the men and women of Farnham who served in World War I and needs the community’s help.

Curator Liz May said: “Was your relative a soldier or a nurse in the Great War? Or maybe they helped out at home, as a farmer or Land Girl, through fundraising or manufacturing? Do you have a story from the First World War that you would like to share?

“We are looking for stories of local men and women from Farnham and around for our exhibition. Photographs, letters, diaries, or any other material you might have could be helpful.

“If you would like to be involved please contact the museum by January 10 with a brief description of your story and the material you have.”
