THE Petersfield Naval Commander in charge of the ill-fated HMS Nottingham when it ran into rocks last year will be court-martialled.

Cdr Richard Farrington, who lives in Love Lane with his wife Julie and their two daughters, is set to face charges of negligence at a naval court in Portsmouth this autumn.

The state-of-the art warship nearly sank when it hit the notorious Wolf Rock, 400 miles from Sydney.

Shortly after the incident Cdr Farrington admitted that he could face a tribunal.

But the 43-year-old commander praised his 253-strong crew for their actions in saving the ship.

Naval officials announced last month that the warship would be refloated on July 7, 12 months to the day after she struck the rocks.
