ALTON College has been granted outline permission to construct 46 flats and houses on land facing the Old Odiham Road - seven of them affordable.

In a departure from normal planning policy, East Hampshire District Council has agreed to waive the 30 per cent rule and settle for half to enable the college to gain enough from the sale of the land to help finance a £2.25 million development, which should strengthen its position as one of the country's leading centres for sixth form and adult education in East Hampshire.
