A COMBINATION of experts, carers and visitors visited Farnham library for the launch of the Community Connections coffee mornings for those with dementia and their carers.

Invited Dementia Navigators Mary Jordan and Abbie Powell captivated the attendees with their narratives on the condition and everyone tucked into the huge variety of cakes supplied by the Friends of Farnham Library.

David Munro was on hand to open the mornings and was later joined by fellow councillor Denise Le Gal to lend their support to the morning.

Steve Sansom, who previously managed the library, said: “It was good to be back. Waverley has a concentration of care homes specialising in dementia care, so we considered the library to be a good location to launch the coffee mornings.”

Colleagues from Community Connections delivered brief presentations on their individual specialisations, and there was the chance for all those attending to network and exchange details to see whether future working relationships could be established.

Mr Sansom continued: “We enrolled five new reminiscence borrowers. The morning was certainly very successful in drawing people’s attention to the diversity of services that we offer to the many that have the condition.”

This coffee morning spearheads the start of many, in which the Community Connections Team visit many locations to promote their services and welcome people to the world of the Surrey libraries. Mr Sansom welcomes any invitations to visit individual care homes and aims to sign up many more to use the reminiscence collection.
