WHITEHILL Town Council's new leader this week pledged to serve the town and "fight for the infrastructure" Whitehill and Bordon needs.

However, former town councillors say they are concerned that Andy Tree is "inexperienced" at a time when the town faces great change with the eco-town and development plans, and lacks the backing he needs to be leader.

When Mr Tree nominated himself, last month, to become the Liberal Democrat leader in the town, four of his fellow councillors resigned in protest, including former leader Adam Carew. Mark Davison, Brian Desmond and Gina Hopkins also stood down on May 15.

This week, Mr Desmond said that the four people who left were the "nuts and bolts" of the council and did "all of the work".
