A CHAMPION British bodybuilder from Farnham was back in the gym lifting weights just five weeks after giving birth.
And despite having welcomed daughter Betsy Rose into the world in December, mum-of-four Katy Westwood is already preparing for a prestigious muscle-flexing competition in October.
Katy, 37, had never been to the gym before attending an exercise class for mums in 2015.
Within a year she’d transformed herself into a bikini fitness champ – working out two hours per day, six days a week. Her secret weapon, she reckons, is using cannabis oil - a supplied by leading UK firm CBD Amour - as a daily supplement to help ease muscle aches and quicken recovery time between weights sessions.CBD oil is booming in popularity in the UK. It’s extracted from cannabis plants but contains only trace amounts of the high-giving tetrahydrocannabinol, aka ‘THC’, and said to promote good health.
She said: “Now Betsy Rose has arrived, I’m looking to get back into my old shape again.
“Ten months doesn’t give me long before the competition, but I was back lifting weights five weeks after giving birth.
“So, my target is to at least be looking good enough to enter the competition, if not win it.
“People ask how I do it but it’s just commitment. I suppose I’m quite driven once I set my mind to something. I’ve helped a few other mums get in shape for holidays and I tell them it’s all about motivation.
“The hardest part was actually getting up off the sofa and going. But what else am I going to do? Just sit there feeling tired?
“Once you do it, it really gets you energised and you end up coming home feeling so much better and ready to face the world again.”
Katy is now aiming to compete at the Miami Pro Universe Championships in St Albans in October.
Her brother first suggested she enter a fitness model competition as he took part in them.
“He told me there was a local one in three days that I should go for,” said Katy.
She finished fifth and went on to enter the national Miami Pro Championships a couple of months later in 2016. She was named Fitness Model Of The Year and Fitness Mum Of The Year as her three young sons sat in the audience.
Katy did it all without the help of a personal trainer or any experts advising on routines or nutrition.
She said: “It was an amazing feeling to win. I never imagined I was capable of getting my body into such shape. But if I can do it, anyone can. It’s just dedication and commitment.”
