REVISED plans for the Forest Community Centre have been given the thumbs-up by Whitehill Town Council.
And hopes are high that the new proposals, which are around the fifth attempt at modifying the Pinehill Road centre in the past nine years, will be implemented.
As previously reported by The Herald, the community association unveiled its last set of plans for the centre in October last year, which were met with objection by the town council.
Building two new rooms, moving the entrance and installing CCTV and an intercom system to increase security were among the facilities proposed in the plans.
But centre manager Lindsay Kelly told The Herald that last yearÕs proposals had been ditched and a new set of plans had now been drawn up, which would allow for a greater amount of storage space.
ÒWe are not going with the last set of plans. One of our community members drew these new plans up and they will be looked at by an architect.
ÒThe main reason for the plans is to make more storage space. The only building work will be a new frontage.Ó
And she said she hoped the new plans would get further than past attempts.
ÒThese must be the fourth or fifth set of plans over the last nine years,Ó she said. ÒIt all depends on funding though.Ó
And Mrs Kelly said that the community association was still trying to get CCTV installed in the centre, but that this would be a separate project.
ÒWe are still going to try for it,Ó she said. ÒWe are going to get some costings.Ó
At MondayÕs meeting of the town councilÕs finance and policy committee members agreed to support the plans.
Chairman Don Mayes added: ÒI think it is a lot better idea than we have had previously. It looks feasible.Ó
