AS tens of thousands of people prepare to line the streets of Petersfield and its surrounding villages to cheer on the once-in-a-lifetime Olympic torch relay, the countdown is on to ensure that everything goes smoothly.

With colourful banners proclaiming the historic event in the town and bunting ready, the scene is set for a day to remember for torch bearers and spectators alike

Eleven lucky people from across the South have the honour of carrying the lighted torch through Petersfield and Rogate before it goes on its way to Midhurst and Easebourne and ending its day in Brighton.

The plan, according to East Hampshire District Council, is to give residents and visitors to Petersfield and beyond "a moment to shine".
