Revellers have been urged to get kitted out as Farnham’s third Lantern Festival is just over a month away.
Huge crowds are expected to gather in the town centre on Thursday, October 29, for another memorable evening of light entertainment.
This year’s event will be the biggest and best yet according to the Farnham Craft Town team with a longer procession and more creativity.
There’s still plenty of time to take part in the ever-growing event with lantern kits available to purchase for £6 from Farnham Town Hall on South Street.
Organisers also have a limited stock of free kits for local community groups to incorporate into their craft activities, with anyone interested asked to email [email protected]
“The Lantern Festival will welcome all parts of our community, young and old, to express their creativity, get involved in making a lantern, and come together to light up a dark October evening,” said Pippa Hufton, Farnham Craft Town co-ordinator.
“Community groups, faith groups, care homes, pubs, clubs, schools and informal groups of friends and families are all encouraged to take part.
“The more the better – we can’t wait to see your creations.”
The festival has become one of the town’s most popular annual events since its launch in 2024, turning a dark October evening into a beautiful spectacle.
The event is also one of the last of October Craft Month with participants being asked to gather with their lanterns on Gostrey Meadow from 5pm onwards on the day.
There should be a party atmosphere with live music ahead of a 6.30pm lighted lantern procession around the “atmospheric roads” of central Farnham.
The procession will finish at St Andrews, where the lanterns will be displayed as part of a large-scale communal craft endeavour.
