The long-running Thames Water repair at Farnham’s Shepherd and Flock roundabout has now been completed, with traffic management expected to be removed later this week.

The update will come as welcome news for motorists who have faced weeks of disruption around one of Farnham’s key roundabouts.

A Thames Water spokesperson said today: “The work has been completed and the traffic management should, if safe to do so and all being well, be removed on Friday.”

It marks a significant change from earlier this week, when Thames Water said high groundwater levels were making the repair difficult and it was unable to give a timescale for completion.

Thames Water had previously said: “Unfortunately, the high groundwater level is making this repair challenging and we are unable to provide a timescale.”

The Herald reported this week on traffic chaos around the town, with the emergency Thames Water works coinciding with the Farnham Infrastructure Programme and work on Castle Street.

The combination has caused lengthy queues and delays for motorists, with congestion at Shepherd and Flock backing up onto surrounding roads.

The roundabout is a key route into and out of Farnham, connecting the A31 with the A325 and carrying traffic towards the town centre and surrounding areas.

Farnham and Bordon MP Greg Stafford has also been pressing Thames Water to take urgent action since the problems began.

The latest announcement means motorists could finally see the restrictions lifted on Friday, although Thames Water has stressed the traffic management will only be removed if it is safe to do so.

Its removal would bring an end to one of the additional sources of disruption facing drivers while other roadworks continue around Farnham.
