NEWSPAPERS are being withdrawn from Farnham library from April due to further cuts by Surrey County Council.
The move comes as part of Surrey’s plans to save £100,000 within the library service in 2018/19.
One copy of the ‘i’ newspaper and one copy of a weekly local paper will remain available, however donations of other papers are welcome.
Labour county councillor Robert Evans said: “This is another example of how Government cuts are really hitting home.
“Many people, including me, regularly read newspapers in Surrey libraries. I can well understand that many residents will be bitterly disappointed at this decision.”
A Surrey County Council spokesman said: “We are facing severe budget pressures due to rising demands for services like adult social care and falling government funding and doing this will allow us to save £60,000 a year, however all newspapers will still be available for residents to read for free digitally in all our libraries.”
