A CYCLIST was due to set off on a 1,000 mile trip today (Sunday), hoping to raise £2,000 for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

John Russell, from Farnham, starts his journey from Land’s End in Cornwall and will pedal all the way up to John o’Groats in the far north of Scotland.

The married father of three boys, who works for biotech company Immunocore, will be spending 14 days in the saddle in his first big fundraising attempt.

He has been training around the Devil’s Jumps in Hindhead for several months in preparation.

John, aged 56, chose to support the hospice as it is close to his heart as well as his home.

He said: “It’s a local charity and everyone speaks highly of the great and important work they do.

“It wouldn’t exist without local support.”
