FERNHURST parish council has recently been presented with the first plans for the redevelopment of the village's Crossfield area. Before the council applies for grant funding, local residents are being encouraged to have their say and can view the plans at the Fernhurst Centre. The redevelopment of the green, which may cost up to £40,000, was one of the best supported ideas agreed within the last village action plan. Currently, the area is on a slight slope with a small selection of trees and flower beds. Problems arise when it rains as the Tarmaced area outside the shops gets flooded. The proposed new design by Jill Westwood, will allow the trees at the end nearest to the crossroads to remain. There will be a circular, fixed, non-slip gravel area with low walls, seats and shrubs all around. Paths with low, wide steps will lead to the road and the layby parking area. And a semi-circular plastic tube with seats inside is being proposed as a possible shelter and gathering place. Of the new plans, chairman of the parish council Carla Barnes said: "It keeps you clean, it keeps you safe and is usable and attractive." The plans will also include a new bicycle rack. The plans will be discussed at the next parish council meeting in September. Anyone wishing to view the plans should visit Fernhurst Centre, Crossfields, Vann Road, Fernhurst.
