COMPETITION was fierce, as Harry Potter fans went head to head in a Potter-themed quiz at Waterstones in Lion and Lamb Yard, Farnham – with all profits going to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

Ticket sales raised £120 and there was a collection bucket out on the night, with a further £70 raised on the evening itself.

The fundraising evening which celebrated the official Harry Potter Book Night last week included questions like “which Harry Potter word is now in the Oxford English Dictionary?” which of course is Muggle.

And according to Tom Riddle’s diary, Hagrid is the Heir of Slytherin, and Fluffy is the name of the three-headed hellhound that guards the trap door in Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone.

“The night was a great success, there are a lot of very keen fans out there, and the quizmaster found himself corrected on at least one of the questions.

“We’d sold out of tickets the week before and ended up with 60 people seated in every corner of the shop and another dozen or so sitting on the floor.

“The place was packed, but there was a lovely atmosphere, with several people turning up in Hogwarts scarfs and t-shirts, like a wizardry University Challenge.

“Thankfully, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice were able to supply us with a PA system so we could make ourselves heard. We’d like to thank everyone for their generosity and good cheer” commented Rob, Farnham’s branch manager.
