FARNHAM-based pub company Red Mist Leisure was forced to close one of its five pubs this week after police launched a murder investigation in a neighbouring property.

The Cock Inn in Headley, near Epsom, closed all day on Monday following the death of a 34-year-old man in a large detached house to the rear of the pub.

Police responded to reports of a disturbance at a private pool party in Church Lane, Headley, at 2.30am and found the body of the man who had suffered a gunshot wound.

A 36-year-old woman is also receiving medical treatment after being shot in the leg but her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the investigation - one on suspicion of murder and the other on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A police cordon was put in place on Monday morning, forcing the temporary closure of The Cock Inn which apologised on Facebook for any inconvenience caused and added it looks forward to welcoming customers again once “given the nod from Surrey Police”.

Red Mist, which also owns The Wheatsheaf in Farnham and The Duke of Cambridge in Tilford, relaunched The Cock Inn in 2015 following a £500,000 refurbishment.
