A PUB in Steep has raised more than £1,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support after people flocked to its charity coffee morning.

The Harrow Inn has taken part in the annual Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event for the past decade and this year’s proceeds surpassed all records.

Visitors to the pub garden on September 25 were treated to tea and coffee, cakes, bric-a-brac stalls, homegrown produce, chutneys and a raffle of prizes donated by villagers and businesses.

Inspired by the Harrow Inn’s efforts, a kind-hearted taxi driver even donated the full fare paid by one pub-goer to Macmillan.

Selina Garstin, one of the organisers, thanked pub landladies Nisa and Claire McCutcheon for again hosting the event and all those who helped on the day.

She said: “We’ve run the coffee morning for Macmillan every year for about 10 years and every year we get more and more support from the community.

“Everyone has been touched by cancer one way or another, and more than 200 people helped us raise a total of £1,681.

“A huge thanks to everyone, it’s much appreciated.”
