RADICAL changes are planned at the independent King Edward VII Hospital in Midhurst to ensure its financial viability.

The number of beds at the hospital is to be reduced from 115 to 92, and from April next year, it is to stop taking NHS emergency medical admissions.

The hospital will also close its radiotherapy department at the end of March. The changes are expected to bring 30 to 40 job losses over the next nine months.

However, the hospital is planning to develop its services in orthopaedics and cardiac surgery, and to introduce new services in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
