A RECORD six Waverley Borough Council parks have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as among the very best in the world.
Farnham Park, Frensham Great Pond and Common, Blackheath Common, Broadwater Park in Farncombe, the Lammas Lands and Phillips Memorial Park in Godalming, are among a record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and green spaces that received a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.
This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
It is the fifth time Farnham Park has received the award and the second year in a row that Frensham Great Pond and Common has kept the title.
Kevin Deanus, Waverley’s portfolio holder for community services, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive six Green Flag Awards.
“We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining all our parks to such a high standard.
“We could not do the work without our fantastic volunteers, led by our brilliant team of rangers – they all do an amazing job.”
