THE long wait is almost over for Whitehill Sports and Social Club, which will learn within the next few weeks whether the planning application for a replacement club building has been granted.
The building is a replacement for the one which was gutted in a late-night fire more than a year ago.
Whitehill Town Council is expected to discuss the application on Monday, as part of the consultation process. East Hampshire District Council's case officer, Keith Oliver, anticipates making a decision at the beginning of July.
He said: "At the moment the planning application will be decided under delegated powers, unless anyone objects to it, when it will be discussed by the committee."
If planning permission is granted it will be a big boost to the local community and the club, whose sports team are currently using a number of different premises as a temporary home.
The proposed replacement, the plans for which were unveiled to members in April, is slightly larger than the previous building with a new "wavy" roof and green stained timber walls.
The club's president, Brian Seager, is anxious to hear the planning authority's decision.
"I am pleased that the application has finally been registered and that we are making some progress," he said.
