HOLYBOURNE residents remain united in their opposition to proposals to install traffic lights at the eastern end of town.
The lights are required, according to Hampshire County Council, to regulate an expected increase of traffic generated by the proposed new Tesco store on Mill Lane, the development of the Treloar College site in the village and a 172-home Persimmon development at Chandos Lodge.
The proposal is to install a new signal-controlled junction at Mill Lane with Montecchio Way; staggered lights on the London Road junction with the new Chandos Lodge site and the village of Holybourne; and a Toucan crossing across London Road, to serve Eggars School.
But a petition, launched to gauge feeling in the village has indicated a preference for a roundabout at the Holybourne junction.
