It’s traditional to “ring in the new year” and it’s a practice that has happened in many local churches.

Back in 1951 here is the team poised to start the midnight peel in the Farnham ringing loft in a photograph from the Herald negative archive held at the Museum of Farnham.

Until the archive project gets fully under way we aren’t able to name many of those present, though seated wearing spectacles is Charlie Denyer, Herald works manager and tower captain of the ringing team.

Can readers name any of the other faces present?

I wonder if the wonderful boards showing past ring achievements are still in place.

Will 2023 see the lists added to or will the work on the tower have to come first?
