Test results from the River Wey at Tilford South Bridge have revealed some shocking results.

Water Rangers Community Lab results showed that E. coli levels were at 1,732 CFU/100ml when the recommended amount is 1,000 CFU/100ml and results from Frensham were 2,420 CFU/100ml.

It follows The Herald’s previous report on children getting sick after swimming in the river. At the time, Cllr Gemma Long for Elstead and Peper Harow was keeping tabs on the situation and asked that any reports about children getting sick from the river be forwarded to her.

After the update, Gemma said: “The clear advice is to stay out of the river at the moment.

“A number of people have asked me about swimming at Frensham Great Pond, this is monitored by the Environment Agency. The last test was two weeks ago and it was rated ‘excellent’.”
