Several members of the club assist Bells Piece in a variety of ways and the club supports the home’s events. This visit was an opportunity for members to see the work done at the home.
Following a meal prepared by Bells Piece students, featuring produce grown on site, the rotarians were treated to a tour of the extensive gardens, which displayed many innovative ideas.
As much as possible is used in the kitchen, recycled or turned into items to sell in the shop. The ways links are built with outside organisations, such as RHS Wisley and the Royal Academy, to help develop skills of everyone there proved particularly impressive.
Bells Piece is one of more than 50 care homes set up by RAF pilot, Leonard Cheshire, in 1948. Starting from his own home in Hampshire, there are now homes in India and 21 other countries. Their mission is to support people with all levels of disability to live, learn and work independently.
