THE sun shined on this year’s Kids Out event organised jointly by Farnham’s two Rotary clubs at the Army Rugby Ground in Aldershot on June 13.

Kids Out is held every year on the second Wednesday of June, organised on a rotating basis by one of the area’s Rotary clubs. This year it was the turn of the Farnham and Farnham Weyside clubs.

Some 850 children, from 35 local schools, and 450 carers enjoyed a day of entertainment, including bouncy castles, carousels, rides, face-painting, clowns, balloons, petting animals, ice-cream and much more.

Sandwiches, a barbecue and a plentiful supply of drinks, all supported by the Inner Wheel, kept the children fed and watered.

Roy Waight, this year’s chairman, said: “I’m so grateful to all the Rotarians who have helped make this happen. When you see the smiles on the faces you realise that all the months of preparation were well worthwhile.”

As usual, the police and fire service turned up and proved enormously popular. Several councillors and mayors also attended and enjoyed the day as much as the children.

One novel feature this year was the involvement of army cadets from MPCT, the cadet training school. They helped with the games and much of the heavy lifting, and seemed to enjoy things as much as the kids.
