Talk about getting the royal seal of approval.

Residents at Moorhouse Care Home in Hindhead have received a personal reply from His Majesty The King after sending handmade cards to the Royal Family.

The letter, which arrived from Buckingham Palace, thanked residents for their “splendid handmade cards”.

James Dawson, Head of Royal Correspondence, said The King was “immensely heartened” by their thought for members of the Royal Family and appreciated the care and time that had gone into making them.

The royal response went down a treat at the care home, with residents delighted to discover their cards had made it all the way to Buckingham Palace – and had received an answer fit for a king.

Home Manager Julie Watts said: “It’s moments like these that remind us why community matters so much in care. Watching our residents’ faces as that letter was read out is something I won’t forget.”

The royal correspondence has already inspired a sequel, with residents sending a birthday card to The Prince of Wales.

Staff at Moorhouse, part of the Ashberry Healthcare group, said the reply had given residents a real boost and reinforced the importance of helping them feel connected to the wider world.

And after receiving such a royal response, residents may have found themselves with a new title: the care home’s official royal correspondents.
