FARNHAM Town Council has agreed to grant £2,000 towards a unique sporting event being held in Farnham next month.

From September 17 to 20, Farnham Rigby Club will host the European Veteran Rugby Association (EVRA) festival coinciding with the start of the Rugby World Cup and the Farnham Feast of Food.

The festival will see 25 teams from across Europe come to Farnham for a weekend of rugby and entertainment.

Organisers want the event to be enjoyed by the whole of Farnham and have arranged free shuttle buses to ferry residents to and from Farnham Rugby Club in Monkton Lane.

Large screens will also show England play Fiji during the opening game of the World Cup and other matches over the weekend.

Jill Hargreaves, Farnham Town Council’s lead member for tourism and events said: “It is marvellous that the EVRA Festival is being held in Farnham and that it falls during the middle of our Feast of Food.

“Not only will players get to enjoy Farnham Rugby Club’s excellent ground but they will also get to experience some wonderful English food, wine and beer.”
