A SEA of people, all dressed in bright yellow, complete a 3k run through the grounds of Farnborough Hill School last Friday in memory of ex-pupil Lucy Pygott.
The run was organised by members of the lower sixth form and dedicated to Lucy, who, together with fellow athlete Stacey Burrows, was tragically killed in a road accident while out running with the Aldershot, Farnham and District Athletic Club in November of last year.
Lucy was not only an exceptionally talented athlete, but also an extremely well-loved student.
The fun run was in aid of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Service, whose work in the aftermath of the dreadful accident made it a clear and appropriate choice of charity to support.
A school spokesman said: “Farnborough Hill was honoured to welcome Sir John Day, chair of trustees of the air ambulance service. Sir John really enjoyed the event and was extremely grateful for the efforts that the girls were making to raise money for this entirely self-funded charity.
“The school has been humbled by the number of people who took part in the run, and are extremely proud to have raised more than £10,000 for this wonderful charity.
“The run was brilliantly organised by the lower sixth students who were part of Lucy’s cohort when she attended Farnborough Hill, and was very thoughtfully and caringly planned.”
Participants were asked to wear yellow to reflect the colours of the air ambulance service, and the 3k distance of the run was symbolic of the distance that Lucy ran when she won her bronze medal at the European Athletics Championships in 2016.
Vicky, one of the lower sixth organisers said: “I found the event really uplifting – it was great to see everyone turn up in yellow. The atmosphere was really positive and I am delighted with the amount we have raised.”
