AN appeal for help has been issued to horse owners by police officers who would like unwanted equipment to help them catch runaway horses.

Officers at Whitehill police station have been faced with an increasing problem of catching loose horses in the area which they are then forced to try to capture before they cause an accident.

Inspector Gerry Thorne explained: ÒWe have had a few problems with irresponsible people who do not secure their horses properly allowing them to stray out into the roads causing a serious danger.

ÒUnfortunately for us it is difficult to control the horses because we do not have the right equipment.

ÒIf there us anybody out there who has got unnecessary or unwanted equipment then we would like to hear from them and would be wiling to come and collect it.

ÒEven something just to tie around the horseÕs neck would be useful and would make it much easier for us to catch these horses.

ÒWe are also interested in hearing from land owners who have some spare land and do not mind us putting these horses there in the short term until they can be claimed.

ÒThen we can put together a list and will have somewhere to put these horses because we cannot just stick them in a field full of crops.Ó

Anyone who can help is asked to contact either Insp Thorne or Sgt Colin Dimond at Whitehill police station on 0845 045 45 45.
