MORE than 100 cars joined a rush-hour protest against development in Farnham last Friday, staged by the North West Farnham Residents' Association.

Protesters were led by a tractor through the town centre at 8.30am and, despite failing to cause the gridlock they hoped, hailed the event a "great success".

John Williamson, who organised the protest, said: "The turnout was great and the publicity was superb. BBC radio and television covered it and we must have alerted thousands of people to our cause.

"We took the police's advice to publicise the protest as much as possible to let people know to avoid the area."
