CORNED beef sandwiches and tea from a tin mug were the order of the day for a World At War event, hosted by the National Trust's Witley Centre.
More than 300 people, young and old, shared their memories, explored the common, deciphered codes, ate corned beef sandwiches and drank tea from a tin mug at Witley Common on Father's Day.
The 23 Sussex Home Guard re-enactment group showed off weapons and wartime memorabilia, and there was a talk from Dale Johnson on how the Home Guard was a vital part of the war effort.
Children of all ages were able to take the 'code-breaker' and nature trails and Second World War era coins were available for rubbing with coloured crayons.
Head ranger Matt Cusack said: "It was great to see people from many generations all talking and finding out about the part that Witley played during both world wars. We were even lucky enough to receive some artefacts associated with the Witley Camp which we are very grateful for."
Anyone who missed the event with stories to tell would be welcome to speak to one of the rangers at the Witley Centre on 01428 681050.
