SANTA and his “rein ponies” were out at the Christmas Market in Wey Hill, on Saturday, collecting money for the Mane Chance Sanctuary, in Compton, and Canine Partners charity.
Lisa Hamilton, who runs Hindhead’s Ridewell Riding Academy helped Santa do his bit along with volunteers, who came together to organise the afternoon market and carol service in the evening, which for the first time was held on Lion Green.
Mince pies were donated by local businesses and music was supported by Lisa von H, the Ollie West Band and Three Counties Church.
Haslemere Rotary Club booked Father Christmas for the evening and the large number of volunteers included councillors, town council staff, as well as the public.
The town council organised a special Christmas tree on the green and a printed carols booklet with a message from mayor, Melanie Odell, who said: “It was a magical evening and there was a wonderful community spirit with everyone singing carols.
“A large number of people helped to make it so successful and the town council would like to thank Haslemere and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Alan Baker Flooring, Haslemere Dental Centre, the Silk Road, the Apple Tree and Mirabelles for their support, together with other businesses too numerous to name.”
Town Crier Christian Ashdown cut a dash in his Victorian regalia and called people to the carols and street market. Another town tradition, the 16th production of the Christmas Cracker, at Haslemere Hall followed in the evening.
