THE Butts School administrator Linda Jerman has been made an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to education. Described as "the welcoming face of the school", Mrs Jerman has been a key member of the Butts School team for more than 30 years. Having joined on a part-time basis to support a little boy with spina bifida, she has risen through the ranks and now works full-time as the school administrator, a role that has enabled her to witness the school develop over the years in both size and strength. According to assistant head teacher Julie Luke, the decision to put Mrs Jerman forward for an award had been taken two years ago by the then headteacher Clare Williams and her board of governors. Supporting testimonials had been written by staff, governors and parents, urging HM Government to recognise Mrs Jerman for her loyalty and dedication in serving Butts School over the years. Mrs Luke told The Herald: "We felt very strongly that Linda is the face of the school. Nothing ever changes – she is always cheerful and welcoming. The MBE is fully deserved. We are very proud of Linda." Mrs Jerman has also given continuity to the team, having seen countless numbers of pupils, parents, teachers and headteachers pass through, she is now welcoming the children of former pupils and even grandchildren through the door, and she loves every minute of it. "To be in a job I love for all these years has been a huge privilege," said Mrs Jerman. "It is an exceptional job. It is always busy, and people orientated, which I love. "I enjoy working with the staff, the governors and the parents but especially with the children. "I love the children, they are just delightful." Linda Jerman first heard news of her MBE when a letter came from The Cabinet on May 14, but she was sworn to secrecy until the final Honours List was released at a minute past midnight on Saturday. "I was speechless when I heard. "It is just wonderful to be recognised in this way, and completely unexpected. My husband, Terry, and daughters Sara and Samantha are so proud of me." The family are now looking forward to going to Buckingham Palace, sometime within the next few months, to receive the award from The Queen.
