NEARLY 800 Scouts and their families gathered at Gamers Fields at Tilford to celebrate St George’s Day. From Friday until Sunday they weathered the chilly late April climate and had a great weekend of fun and activities.

Each Scout group from the area put on an activity ranging from backwoods cooking, bug hunting, fire lighting, pancake cooking smoothie making, knotting, water bottle missiles and other ‘Scouty’ things.

There was kayaking run by the Blackwater Valley Canoe Club, climbing, archery, shooting, scalextric’s and a popular craft stand. Five bouncy castles were a positive draw for the children together with zorbing, all free so they could have as many goes as they wished.

The evenings were spent playing bingo, singing around the campfire and there was even a noisy disco which was very popular with some of the mums.

Sunday was marked by the retiring Mayor of Farnham, Pat Frost, joining for a service of dedication where all the Beavers Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders remade their promise and badges and awards were presented.

Phillip German. the retiring district commissioner thanked all those who had worked so hard to enable the biggest ever Farnham Family Camp to take place.
